"Blood is Blood" is dedicated to encouraging the FDA to seek and implement blood donation policies that are non-discriminatory towards the Gay & Bi-sexual community in an effort to save lives by holding annual blood drives and events to spark conversation and change.
On October 19th, 2015 Founder of "Blood is Blood" Jordan Moll went to the American Red Cross to donate blood out of the kindness of his heart, and during the screening process he was asked since 1977 has he had sex with another man, He answered yes because he is an openly gay man. When the receptionist reviewed his answers she told him he was indefinitely banned from donating blood because he had sex with another man. Jordan never knew that this FDA Law existed until then and when he got home he did some more research, He did understand that in 1983 this law made sense, but it has since been scientifically proven that HIV(AIDs) is not only transmitted through MSM sex and is in fact transmitted through open cuts, sores, or breaks in the skin; through mucous membranes, such as those inside the anus or vagina, or through direct injection.
Jordan also has stage 3 fatty liver disease a condition that almost guarantees he will eventually need a liver transplant and the blood transfusions that come along with it. He wants to donate blood to earn his gift of life he may eventually need.
This has nothing to do with protecting the Blood Donations- It is at this point pure discrimination.
The questionnaire and screening process currently in use needs to be updated to reflect one individual donors risk, not one whole group. And in fact, this same guideline allows heterosexuals with multiple partners to donate blood despite having an increased risk of transmitting HIV and hepatitis.
In 2017 at the 2nd Annual "Blood is Blood" Blood Drive - Buffalo, Founder of "Blood is Blood" Jordan Moll announced a vow of celibacy – not for religious reasons, but so he could donate blood and draw attention to the lasting stigma against blood donations from those who have sex with gay and bisexual men. His year spent abstaining from sex came to an end at the 3rd Annual "Blood is Blood" Blood Drive in Buffalo, NY in 2018 in which he donated life-saving blood.
